Rose Garden & Riverside Camping
Camping is how it should be at Penpont - a relaxed, informal and quiet space. The Old Rose Garden has an informal layout – no lines of designated pitches but a variety of small private spaces amongst the mature trees and shrubs with a central open communal space.
There are also some riverside pitches and if you're lucky you'll see the otters, the kingfishers, the dippers and other wildlife. There is plenty of space and we let campers choose their own pitches within the site.
We exclusively hire the campsite for groups of up to 35. If you are a larger group looking to book the entire campsite, we have a large awning that we can set up on the central rose garden lawn at a reasonable fee.

Capacity
We limit numbers on the campsite to no more than 35, including children. This is because of the impact that people have on the site, and our endeavours to conserve the area for its natural beauty.
Tents & Vans
This is primarily a Tent only site. We do have limited space for camper vans in the Orchard area, and limit numbers to 2 vans at any one time. Camper vans should be no bigger than a VW Transporter type, as access onto the site prevents bigger vans and caravans. We do not have any electrical hook ups or facilities to empty chemical loos.
Bar
During the summer months, we occasionally open up the Punch & Judy bar for sundowners. Keep an eye for special evening events - feasts and music - that we put on through the season.
Sauna
Situated on the banks of the river, our wood-fired sauna is crafted from timber harvested from our woodlands and processed on site. The sauna seats up to 9 people, it can be hired privately for a group or we run regular communal sessions. For more information and to make a booking visit our sauna page.
Food
In our on-site Farm Shop you’ll find our fresh organic vegetables and fruit from the walled gardens. There is also a freezer full of delicious local organic meat, eggs and Penpont honey and homemade jam and chutneys.
Showers
The hot showers and loos are located within the Stable Block which is a short walk away, (approx 100m) from the camp-site. There you will also find a washing up sink and drainer and a standpipe for fresh water.
Swimming & Fishing
There are a couple of deep swimming pools in the river but do bring some old trainers to paddle and swim in. Penpont has the fishing rights to about a mile, both banks, of the River Usk. We stipulate fly only and catch & release. We charge £27.50 per rod per day, and you can book through the Wye & Usk Foundation.
Fires
There are a couple of permanent communal fire places and we have several metal raised fire pits which can be used by our campers and placed anywhere. We sell seasoned bags of logs at £6 / bag – gather your own kindling and bring some old newspapers & matches. We also sell our own charcoal in the Farm Shop.

We ask that people are sensitive to the area.
The garden contains some rare old ornamental trees, and there is an abundance of wild animals and birdlife. The River Usk is an S.A.C (Special Area of Conservation), one of only a few in Europe.
We try to avoid having too many signs around the site, but after managing the campsite for a few years now, we find that a few baseline rules helps with the maintenance of the site.
Please take care of all your rubbish - leave no trace.
Recycle, recycle, recycle: we put clearly marked bins out for people to use and welcome people's careful sorting of their rubbish.
Please do not go to the toilet in the campsite. Please respect this space as if it were your own garden, and leave it as you would like to find it.
Please do not throw your dog poo in bags into the undergrowth.
Please no amplified music, and respect other campers. This is a quiet campsite.
Please do not damage the trees and shrubs or pick the wild flowers.
We have a no car policy on the camp field. There is a car park close by with wheelbarrows. Please return the wheelbarrows to the car park after use.
