The Walled Garden
The walled gardens were first laid out in the 1780s and during the past 28 years they have come back into full organic production and are certified with the Soil Association.
We grow a wide and diverse range of vegetables, some fruit, cut flowers and herbs within its sheltered 2 acres, 3 polytunnels and glass house.
It is an intensive small scale ‘closed’ system and we operate on a 5 year rotation utilising green manures and home-made compost to maintain the soil’s fertility.
An ongoing restoration of the high walls is slowly and steadily making its way around the perimeter.
